Thomas and Oliver Govier
Born: 4th April 2011 At : 9:54 + 9:55 am
Born 9 weeks early, Thomas and Oliver had already had a tough time, being diagnosed with Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome as early as 16 weeks. Thomas was growing normally, but Oliver was already being left behind. Survival rates are between 10 and 20% with such an early on set and as the difference between them increased we were referred to Kings college hospital, where Prof. Kypros Nicolaides performed extensive tests and changed the diagnosis to Selective Intrauterine Growth Restriction, similarly threatening both babies. We were brought back the next day and Prof. Nicolaides performed a Selective laser ablation of the connecting vessels. The odds had now increased significantly to 65% of 1 or both twins surviving.
The Operation was performed on 23rd December 2010, Prof. Kypros Nicolaides and his team gave us the most precious gift possible and we would like to thank them with all our heart. He made us feel very relaxed during the examination and the operation, explaining everything along the way and even cracking jokes.
